Sample Resume Objectives

It is standard practice to include a career objective within your resume. This is simply a one or two sentence statement of your career goals. However, summarizing your job expectations, professional experience and personal goals for the future can be difficult for many people. Researching several sample resume objectives can help you create your own.

One of the most common mistakes that many people make, when learning how to make a resume, is to not include a career objective statement at all. Many employers are keen to see what your objective is as they try to determine who will be a good fit for their company. Assuming that one is not necessary because it may seem obvious that you want the advertised position will only hurt your chances of progressing to an interview.

Another mistake with resume objectives that is often made is to include one that too general and in no way tailored to the job you are applying for. An example of this is one such as;

- “To secure a position in which my skills and experience can be fully utilized and built upon.”

The above sample resume objective could be used to apply for almost any position and this is it’s weakness. It is in your best interest to avoid using anything like this, but rather take the time to create one that ties in with the position you are trying to obtain.

When writing an objective you need to make it personal. Typically, your career objective is the first thing an employer will see at the beginning of your resume. It is beneficial for your potential employer to see straight away what it is that you want from your career, as well as what you are willing to do to achieve this. This lets them know that your are focused on your career and driven to achieve it.

Below is a sample resume objective that is specific, personal and clearly states what a would-be employee desires in a position and organization.

- “To secure a position of a customer service representative in the hospitality industry, where I can utilize my customer relation and management skills, with the opportunity for future performance-based progression.”

A career objective like the one above clearly states to an employer what type of position you are seeking, your previous experience as well as your plans to further your career in the future.
